Friction

Minor repetitive motions can have major consequences if you're not careful. That's why I wear spandex and synthetic material on my long runs. Your thighs, armpits and nipples can all end up as casualties of friction without some foresight.

I'll be using Body Glide on race day, just to make sure all my bases are covered.

The girl who sold me my running shoes a while back told me about her first marathon and how she didn't wear spandex shorts under her running shorts and by the end of the marathon she was bleeding and now has scars on her thighs. I was shocked and slightly grossed out. I've been using Vaseline, it's working great for my underarms but not so much for my toes. Usually I have blisters on every toe but my big toes after the long runs so I'm going to use sports tape to see if it will help. Maybe I should try the body glide and see if it works better.

You get blisters on your toes? Like on the very tips? Yikes. Maybe your shoes are too small? I dunno. Yeah, blisters are no good. By now those blisters should turn into lovely callouses.

I feel your pain.

I was thinking that maybe it's your socks. I used to get blisters when I ran with just regular socks, but after I bought a pair of running socks, no more blisters!

The kind I have are Wright's running socks, and they're great. Asics also makes great socks.

The blisters are on the sides and tips of my toes and you are right they are turning into ugly calluses (I'm worried about my feet in sandals in the summer). I thought it was the friction of the toes rubbing against each other but I am going to buy new socks and see if that helps. I run in Thorlos which I thought are pretty good socks but I may buy a pair of the Asics and Wright's and compare.

I've run with Thorlo's in the past, and I like them a lot, too. They're very, very comfortable. I wore them in high school when I ran track and cross-country.

It may just be that since you're running such long distances, you're still getting blisters, you know?

Let us know if the new socks solve your problem.

Thanks for that comment. Mark has been having problems with that- thanks! I got blisters on my last run too- so you are just full of good advice and I appreciate it.
