a poo attack and other concerns

So, I ran my eight miles yesterday because we're out of town today. Half way through, I was seized by a poo attack. It was of such a nature that I had to start walking. I gave it a minute, jogged again, and found that I'd better slow to a walk or be sorry. Finally made it to a friend's house. Used their bathroom, couldn't "go." (If this is all a bit graphic, I'm sorry. But I'm getting to a point). By then I had two miles more on my route but my legs literally wouldn't let me run. I'm very surprised they allowed me to get back home at all.

Luckily, they've got port-a-pottys along a marathon route (S.V. streets should invest in these as well). But for the first time I realized just how difficult this run is going to be. I've been running in the middle of what the schedule suggests (aka if it says run from 30 to 45 mins, I'll usually run 35 and call it good). But I decided that if I really am going to be able to pull this off, I'll need to start training at maximum capacity.

Good luck running today, girls!

Yikes, Lacy! I'm sorry that your run was not quite how you planned it. I ran the 8 today in the gym and around mile 4 I really had to pee. So I took a little break and was good for the second half of the run. Now you have me a bit afraid of a poo attack. I'm going to run the 9 miles next week outside even if it is a blizzard now I'll just have to make sure there are bathrooms along my route too.

Just kidding! I guess next week is 4 miles and then the next week is 9-10 miles. I'm planning on running them both outside but will only worry about bathrooms for the 9-10 miler. Also, I was reading in one of my running books that for runs of 10 miles you should drink both water and a sports drink and then anything over 12 miles you should have water, sports drinks, and carbohydrate replacements (GU, etc...) Just a tip. They also say to try all of these things before race day as they can all affect your gastrointestinal system and perhaps cause vomiting or a poo attack. Good Times!!

Unfortunately, I have not been so lucky on a couple of occasions. Eww. I know. TMI. So, mad props to you, Lacy, for making it. I applaud you.

I have concerns about poo attacks too, on the bus to work, on the stand at church or while watching a good movie/sports.

I thought you stepped in poo... this is much worse! My mom got attacked by poo once. On vacation once we went to a "zoo" I guess you could call it, and everyone in town had warned us about this poo- throwing monkey.. well, sadly, my mom became a victim of that monkey's rage. He had surprisingly good aim and range. She tried to run, but he got her. She had to buy new shoes after that.. have you ever smelled monkey doo?
