official date

The Mt. Rushmore Marathon website was showing dates for last year. But I've been calling around and found the current dates/info on the site of the company in charge of the race.

****Sat., October 3rd at 7am****

Looks like there will be quite the crowd coming out of both AZ and UT. Be sure to share any flight/hotel deals you find! I'll go first: flying out of the Mesa airport (not PHX) to Rapid City on Allegiant Air is like $69 a way!

There's a full and half marathon. Also a 5K (Dad, Candy??), and a relay (where each person runs six or seven miles). I'm sensing an extravaganza!!

I'm going to run 5 miles tomorrow.......

Pray for me!

on the move

Okay people. Rushmore is just around the corner and I've decided that if I seriously want to participate, then I'd better actually start running (it's amazing how long it took me to come to terms with this conclusion).

Accordingly, I woke up this morning and ran a mile. Without stopping.

Thank you (bow), thank you (bow).

Now let's take a count:
Me, Syd, Linds, Dave, Chad, Meghan, Jamie Lee, Jamie Lee's aunt, Devry, and depending on post-baby up-to-it-ness, Dana. Am I missing anyone? Anyone??

I'm in.......

trouble. I ran 3 miles at lunch today. It looked overcast so I thought it would be fine to run at 2:00 in the afternoon, in Utah, in the Summer.

But sadly now I feel a little sick. I might have given myself heatstroke. Highlight, I'm now running at 12 minute miles. Lowlight, did I mention the heat exhaustion?

Ok, I might officially be that old lady that needs the water bottles riding around your hips where a fanny pack should be.

Oh, Mt. Rushmore.....I hope you are worth it!

I just ran 10

............ Minutes. I nearly passed out and vomited when the horrific experience was over. I hope this gets easier.

you've got to start somewhere

And for me, this start came last night after a fateful dinner of bratworst and potato chips. I decided I'd run up and down my street--just a little over a mile--to see where I was at. Let's just say, I'm at level zero, which really shouldn't surprise me. I mean, I haven't really run in like a year. But I take comfort in the fact that I've done worse...and much better. So, onward and upward!

we're back!

I've decided to resurrect this blog by running a half marathon. Why not a full? Well, frankly, because I'm just not in the mood.

My sister Syd and I have decided upon the Mt. Rushmore half marathon in October--providential because of its timing (in the fall and on a Saturday, no less) and the fact that I served half my mission there.

We're calling on all friends, family, and slight acquaintances to join us! (There's a full Marathon the same day too, for the doubly ambitious runners out there). Get ready for some fun posts about sweat, blisters, and poo!

Cheers!
